Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI)

BGI is a genome sequencing center headquartered in Shenzhen, China. It provides a wide variety of next generation sequencing (NGS) services, including: WGS, exome sequencing, transcriptome sequencing, RNA quantification. Its mission is to provide researchers and healthcare professionals with quality genomic data at rapid turnaround times with industry leading pricing. It started in 1999 as a non-governmental independent research institute intended to represent China in the Human Genome Project. It currently receives funds from private investors and the Chinese government. It is the first citizen-managed, non profit research institution in China. It provides commercial science, health, agricultural, and informatics services to global pharmaceutical companies. BGI currently operates in more than 100 countries and regions and works with more than 3000 medical institutions and more than 300 hospitals.

DACHSER Far East Ltd. is a global leader in the logistics industry. Dachser Far East Ltd. was founded in 1976 and is based in North Point, Hong Kong. Walmart Stores, Inc. was founded by American retail legend Mr. Sam Walton in Arkansas in 1962. Over the past 50 years, the company has become the world’s largest private employer and retailer. In 1996, Walmart entered the Chinese market and opened its first hypermarket and Sam’s Club in Shenzhen. By now, Walmart has been operating in China for 20 years with about 100,000 associates. Up to 31 Dec, 2016, Walmart has been operating 439 retail units covering 189 cities nationwide; as well as 8 distribution centers and 11 fresh products distribution centers. Walmart China partners with more than seven thousands of of suppliers in China to locally source 95% of its merchandise. All China stores are managed by local Chinese. Walmart hopes to become an integral part of China’s economic development, creating jobs and economic stimulus and working hard to build on a position as a trusted corporate citizen in China.


USC US-China Institute

The USC U.S.-China Institute informs public discussion of the evolving and multidimensional U.S.-China relationship through policy-relevant research, graduate and undergraduate training, and professional development programs for teachers, journalists, and officials. It produces compelling public events, widely-viewed documentary films, and the popular magazines US-China Today and Asia Pacific Arts. USCI was established in 2006 by USC President C.L. “Max” Nikias (then provost). In fall 2011, USCI became part of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, whose world-class programs include those on public diplomacy, new Chinese media, and economics reporting.
